So, why should someone go for a paid software or free for a limited time with a restriction that it cannot be upgraded in future (or pay for it if you need to upgrade) when freewares are there in the cyberworld (with a lot of better and powerful options)?

Some of the best voices are free and they were produced by Lernout & Hauspie who went bankrupt.
They produced for quite a number of languages, some can be found here:-
http://www.readplease.com/english/downloads/
10 American voices can be found at the bottom of page under more free voices, the third American voice is the least robotic voice I have ever found for English link:-
http://www.nextup.com/TextAloud/SpeechEngine/voices.html
Look for, Lernout & Hauspie voices, in your search engine there are more languages available in my first link.
One ability struck me: text to speech conversion. Even mij favorite Audacity cannot do that. I just tested it and it does a remarkably good job, very clear and with the proper intonation. Only one female voice is included with the program: Microsoft Anna. The Help file suggests a link for downloading foreign language speech engines, but the link does not work. Please, developers, help us out here.
Installed fast and flawless on XP SP3. Activation was automatic. It must happend that this morning I am recording guitar and vocal tracks with Kristal Audio Engine (free) which I have been using for several years along with Audacity and a host of effects VST add ons. I also use a Maudio Fasttrack Interface for guitar and mic inputs.
So I am took time to do a good test of WaveMax. WaveMax recognized my sound card and fast track but I was unable to record the guitar and mic at the same time on different tracks. I tried to add a second vocal track to the guitar track but I was unable to monitor the prerecorded guitar track so I could add the vocal in sync with the guitar. I can record mic and guitar simultaneously on one track with the FastTrack. Also I could not find how to identify my FastTrack as the primary input device and when I went to record a new track my onboard mme soundcard was the default and I had to select the FastTrack each time.
First I recorded a mono guitar track which recorded just fine with good quality. Then I recorded a stero track with guitar line in and mic. This gave me vocals in left side and guitar in right side of audio output. Again quality was good on both. I messed around a wee bit with effects and found them not of the best quality and the interface clumsy to use them.
I also tested the text to voice and wasn't impressed at all. The voice was male and sounded like the old SAM of Commodore 64 days, very computerish.
I will stick to Kristal for free. Much more powerful and versitle, you can import tons of free VST Effects Plug Ins online and you can really produce high quality multitrack audio. You will never do this with WaveMax. If you just want a toy for the kids to mess around with it seems great for but a serious DAW it's not even close. Grab free Audacity along with Kristal, some free VST's and you are all set for some serious home studio recording.
The price of WavMax seems way off. I would think maybe $25 fair. Sorry to be so long winded. I did give it a good test drive but will uninstall. Thanks GAOTD and WaveMax. I did not give a thumbs up or down as it could go both ways. For a fun toy, thumbs up for a good DAW thumbs down.
Very good audio editor software with lots of advanced features suitable for advanced users (it's definitely not for noobs, in my view).
So Thumbs UP from me!!
Hey Andy...I'm not sure if all the freebies, you mentioned in your astonishing comment above, provide the same advanced features as this one.
To be honest with you, I have a fancy that this GAOTD is more suitable for more Advanced Users who work with audio files almost on a daily basis.... who knows...LOL!!
At least, have you tried it??
Anyway, besides your freebies, I would add another nice one called "OCEANAUDIO", a cross-platform and very easy to use audio editor, with lots of advanced features offered to users.
Unlike this GAOTD, is compatible with MAC and Linux as well, and of course it can always be updated.

OTTIMO EDITOR AUDIO!!! Pollice SU!!!!

A primo impatto mi sembra molto molto buono.. Mi sembra molto simile a Cool Record Edit Pro (scaricato sempre da qui) che era davvero ottimo.
Consiglio di provarlo, pollice su :)
