Whoa, hold the praise, folks. This software does NOT allow you to make changes within MP3s without re-encoding them. Bummer. This means that every time you make a change of some kind, the MP3 is switched to WAV while editing then re-encoded back to MP3. It ruins their fidelity. Sorry, but this is a very serious issue that causes me to issue a thumbs down.
This is an outstanding tool I installed this back in February when it was offered.
Chuck King's criticism is correct that it re-encodes Mp3s, which can affect quality, rather than editing them natively.
I happen to do most of my editing on WAV files, so this most often doesn't affect me. But when I have done MP3 editing, I haven't found it to have enough consequences to affect most peoples' ears.
This tool provides a great deal of useful tools wrapped up in a nice interface.
Someone asked how it compares to Audacity. I use both. Sound Editor Deluxe provides better tools for changing parameters to the audio itself. But it doesn't do much of what Audacity does, or doesn't do it as well, such as multi-channel or multi-track recording.
The only software that I've used that is in some ways better than this is "Wavepad Sound Editor" from NCH Software. It is exceptional software, though something always feels a little shady about their company.

Audacity has always been open source and it wasn't given away here. As far as "quite a few more features" than Audacity, do tell, because such isn't apparent to me. In fact, I don't see any editing task that I can't do just as easily and quickly with Audacity.

@ AV: Io oltre ad esser un assemblatore di pc sono pure un programmatore C++ e Fortran....
Sta' di fatto che non ti ho detto di non proporre alternative, che son bene accette, ma che di venir a proporre SOLO alternative e sputtanare programmi proposti e che nemmeno hai provato(!), puoi anche metterti su un bel sito tutto tuo che di sicuro potresti avere anche interessi maggiori, no???
Sul fatto delle licenze date su gaotd o che ci siano dei freeware che permettano di scaricare mp3 gratis, ho voluto solo ricordarvi che COMUNQUE SONO MP3 ILLEGALI PERCHE NON VENGONO PAGATI I DIRITTI D'AUTORE....SE LA COSA NON TURBA NESSUNO ALLORA SON IL PRIMO A DIRE CHE CI SONO PROGRAMMI MOLTO MA MOLTO MIGLIORI RISPETTO AL TUO SUGGERITO O ANCHE A QUELLO DA GAOTD SUGGERITO....e rigorosamente opensource!

Purtroppo il sottoscritto e' un tecnico, non un filosofo come te...
Pertanto, se GAOTD mi offre a pagamento qualcosa di cui so per certo che esiste un equivalente freeware, lo propongo qua, evitando di far perdere tempo ad altri in installazioni/disinstallazioni superflue.

Lo trovo un buon programma.Ricco di funzioni e di facile utilizzo,perché tutto è ben visibile e di immediata comprensione,nelle funzioni più utilizzate.

Programma scaricato, installato ed attivato senza problemi.
Interessanti le possibilita' di rippare direttamente da cd audio, download in mp3 da youtube e le tracce audio da video e il salvare direttamente in mp3 senza dover installare codec diversi.
Inoltre non pesa molti megabytes.
