Finally a great and very useful program after crappy software released here over the past few days.
As FREE (online) alternative (so no installation needed unlike this GAOTD), I recommend this amazing online OCR service, which supports not only PDF files as input/output but also GIF, BMP, JPEG, TIFF or PNG as input and DOC, TXT or RTF as output.

Win 7 64 bit. This is a disaster! Everytime I try to register it, this opens up my browser with a pop up window and urges me to buy the software. Even though it says registered successfully, next time I start the software it is still not registered and pops up the ad window again. It is so unnerving I am going to get a stroke because of it. The output is a total disaster too. In wordpad format? Any documents with pictures or graphs are out of question. Anyone in their right mind better get the calibre e-book management software with and inbuilt OCR feature which is far superior to this junk. Thumbs down and uninstall.
Tried to scan a couple of PDFs (each document in a different language so I did not do it in batch mode but rather one file at a time) and noticed -as I expected- that when the PDF has been created out of a native text file (Word, Notepad, etc.) WITHOUT images, the results are acceptable (not great but acceptable).
On the other hand if the PDF has been created out of an image file depicting text (say a screenshot capture of a letter), the results are absolutely dreadful.
I must admit that I expected a better performance from a PDFZilla product.
Using Windows 7 Pro 64x
Program won't register
When I open the program and click on About and enter the key it says Registered Successfully - Restart the Program, but the restarted program still says Unregistered. When I try to OCR a pdf it says that as unregistered it will only do 3 pages and do I want to register. When I click on that Register button it takes me directly to their homepage and wants me to buy the program at a discount for the next few hours. I've tried this 4 times with the same results.
Experimenting with it unregistered
I finally tried it unregistered on two single-page pdf's and the results of both files was so poor that I could type the entire pdf's faster than I could edit the OCR results. I've seen freeware OCR programs that work better than this. Maybe it works better when registered, but I can't tell. In short, I'm not impressed.

Tried the software, Does it's job with text but fails with math formulas i didn´t expect to work with math formulas, so i guess it's mostly ok

Sembra in grado di processare solo pagine intere e non blocchi di testo: come risultato, se il testo è disposto in più colonne mescola il tutto procedendo dall'alto verso il basso. 50 dollari per un programma simile sono un prezzo fuori da ogni logica.

Per chi ha MS Office, ricordo il poco noto OCR incluso in Word: si chiama "Microsoft Office Document Imaging", e converte in testo immagini TIFF, meglio se monocromatiche.

Non converte perfettamente, ma fa "il lavoro sporco" di rendere editabile un testo ottenuto da una scansione, utile quindi per estrarre passi da prendere a spunto per rielaborazioni. Il freeware Top Ocr ha una simile (im)precisione, ed offre diverse opzioni (anche se non mi sembrano funzionare bene) e non so se spenderei 50 Usd per Pdf Ocr, che invece come opzioni è molto "basico". Tuttavia Pdf Ocr offre un comportamento soddisfacente e lo lascerò installato, a disposizione per quei file dove Top Ocr va in tilt. Non sarà da 5 stelle, ma pollice su.

Concordo con Novarese......purtroppo nonostante funzioni bene se e' presente solo testo nel pdf, con la grafica fa un macello.....
Grazie a GAOTD per averne potuto provare la versione completa ma il programma merita un pollice giu.

I programmi OCR mi incuriosivano da un po' e finalmente ho l'occasione di provarne uno! Questo PDF OCR sembra funzionare bene, certo ha qualche problema con i font troppo strani (ma del resto è inevitabile!), sarebbe interessante se esportasse anche i files in formato .doc o simili, ma tutto considerato funziona bene, è veloce e affidabile. Pollice su! :)

In teoria sarebbe l'anello mancante...
In pratica, funziona splendidamente se il PDF contiene solo testo rasterizzato, mentre se ci sono immagini, il software "tenta" di tradurle in testo (invece di trascurarle), costringendo poi ad un faticoso lavoro di pulizia nel proprio word processor.
Alternativa gratuita: Irfanview, con opportuno plug-in OCR.
