Well...if you love creating new personalized icons for your files from scratch or by using an image file, with loads of customization options given to users (drop shadow, opacity, smooth, negative, grayscale, colorize, rotate, roll and mirror effects etc...), this tool is the right app for you. Can also create animated GIF images, banners and buttons for your websites with ease.
THUMBS UP...
.....BUT ......
....40 BUCKS for a (non crucial) app like this??
Come on ==> Must be a joke!!

Seriously anyone who gave this tool a thumbs down has not played with it.
I've played with a few icon maker tools but this is the first one I can say that WOW i'm impressed.
Heck for thoses who don't need a icon maker download it for your kids as a paint tool.
Now I'm waiting to see if someone can post a freeware that tops this one and for once I doubt it.
Thanks GOATD and Aha-soft (Humm Aha - Take on me stuck in head oh no ;-) )

I went to their website because I want a laugh, but I did not laugh. It is one of the clearest website I have found. Well, I hope this type of website always exist. Well, I really hope we remain in the first generation website back in the 70's, if that's true.

As a former graphic designer, I can tell you that most professional GD will not use such a tool as this one. Professional icon creation usually starts in a vector program such as Adobe Illustrator and then finishes in a editing program such as Adobe PhotoShop. Most of us will use Adobe software to do the job because we naturally will own the software, so there would be no need for an icon-editor software. But if you are looking into creating some professional icons without Adobe's expensive software, then you should download this tool. If you want to make some great looking icons, then you should install a vector program such as Inkscape to go with IconLover. Or if you just want to make some small icons(16px-48px) for a toolbar or program icons or something like that then IconLover is all you will need. You will NOT find an icon-editor with many features that IconLover has to offer with the exception of Green Fish Icon-editor or some other similar tool. And to add to that, there are not many free icon-editors available which are worth installing.
This program would be the PhotoShop part of creating icons; adding touch ups, filters, sharpness, etc. and maybe create a 16px version for your large 512px/256px icon. And the unique function that a real icon-editor has is that it can create Windows icons. It can package all of the different size PNG icons into an .ico file.
$39.99? Well it not bad considering that popular icon-editors Michael Angelo can run up to $80 and Axialis can go up to $70(recently it has gone down to $50). IconLover has many of the same functions as those.
If you are looking into seriously making some icons then it would be foolish not to download and try this. It is a good tool for amateurs and can be used professionally when teamed up with Inkscape(or any other decent free vector/3D program). It is user friendly for beginners and has a familiar set-up that many GD are use to. The only free "true" icon-editors(programs without the need of a plugin) are GreenFish Icon-editor, IcoFX(the old free version 1.6.4) or AHA-soft/SibCode's own stripped down version of IconLover, SibCode Icon-editor.
Recommended software to accompany IconLover: Inkscape(inkscape.org) & Toolbar Paint(www.donkeysstable.com/toolbar_paint.htm)
