The Good
* Supports many input video formats.
* Supports multiple output video formats.
* You can choose from predefined profiles for things like DVD, VCD, iPod, PSP, Zune, etc.
* You can rip just the audio from videos if you want.
* Very light on resources/lighter on computer resources then FormatFactory.
* You can drag + drop files into the converter.
* You can convert more then one file at once.
* You can change volume of sound in videos when converting.
The Bad
* You can't input or output SWF videos.
* A few interface improvements can be made.

Verdict
ConvertVid deserves two thumbs up. It is a very nice program that supports multiple input/output formats and is very light on computer resources. While it is true it does not have all the features that FormatFactory has, ConvertVid outshines FormatFactory in the field of computer resources usage (or lack there of since ConvertVid is more light on resources - see numbers above). Therefore this is my recommendation for today: if you are on an older computer or you would like a video converting program that is light on resources, grab ConvertVid. Everyone else can just stick to FormatFactory because FF can basically do all of what ConvertVid can (with like just the one exception I mentioned above) + more.

What I find interesting is, if you don't pay attention during the install then the installation leaves out some options. It gives you a list of formats to allow it to convert to, with boxes checked. If you scroll down to view the entire list you will realize some of the boxes are unchecked, meaning you won't have the option for that format unless you check the box. If you're the type of person who just accepts the recommended defaults then you end up leaving a few options out.
Unfortunately a 16:9 video I made with my HD camcorder was converted into 4:3 aspect ratio. Not so good. Converters should *never* mess with the aspect ratio unless specifically requested.
This is just a GUI for ffmpeg like WinFF, Super, Avanti, AutoFF, GVC, and a dozen other free video converters. The developer doesn't deserve to get payed for it when all the job is done by a free tool.
What can I say, This is superb, next to starburn and aston it's the best application offered here.
Super does more but this is FAR easier to use and start-up and very very reliable putting out very compliant and well encoded files which are actually resultant to the bitrate settings you specify unlike most other conversion tools.
It uses FFMPEG as it's internal engine which is an excellent converter.
It's nice looking and tastefully graphical without being so shiny it looks cheap.
The default settings are also very logical and sensible.
Conversion speed is excellent, much quicker than anything else I have ever used.
The application "videoformat" icons are simply PNG images allowing me to insert anything I like in there.
The Language files are easily modifiable XML files allowing you to customize the language to anything you desire easily.
if you are worried about the files names "IssSurvey" don;t be, they are part of the Innosetup installer.
The developers appear to have a great attitude and a sense of humor from some of the dialogs which is VERY rare in the programming world.
Rating SUPERB! 10/10, High regard for the way this software has been written and set out, a real credit to the developers, I wish other software designers would follow this lead instead of the plethora of garbage applications I see.
I would highly recommend this, especially for the $20 they are asking, in fact I might actually pay them for it even though I got this copy for nix.

Mi dispiace dissentire, ma Bamby non ha neanche un grammo di ragione: quel che lui afferma praticamente cancella con un colpo di spugna il significato, lo scopo , la funzione e in sostanza l'essenza stessa dei forum, che servono proprio per dare la possibilità agli utenti di avvalersi reciprocamente dell'esperienza altrui, soprattutto a beneficio delle persone meno esperte e meno sicure (che possono anche non fidarsi della propria capacità di saper effettuare ricerche fruttuose in rete ,dal momento che la rete è un mare magnum caotico di informazioni e non sempre ci si imbatte in quelle giuste. Il Forum offre appunto la possibilità di appoggiarsi all'esperienza diretta di altri utenti più navigati. Perché mai non cogliere questa opportunità?)
Bamby in sostanza sta dicendo " cercatevi le informazioni da soli"...mah!...Io non parlo a titolo personale perché non chiedo quasi mai niente, ma questa mentalità mi lascia molto, molto perplesso per le ragioni che ho esposto sopra.
Evidentemente la generosità e la disponibilità sono doti che appartengono solo a pochi (tra questi non posso non citare Turbo, ma per fortuna ce ne sono anche altri)

Probabilmente "bamby" hai un po' di ragione! Ma tieni conto che alcuni di noi hanno bisogno di chiarimenti e approfondimenti anche semplici semplici da chi ne sa un po' di più e visto che l'educazione è ben ritornata non guasterebbe neanche tanto gestircelo a modo nostro e chiuderci un occhio! Comunque altro buon programma (o uno analogo) che non dovrebbe mai mancare in un PC. Grazie GAOTD e buona continuazione a tutti.......

... ultimamente sembra una chat anche se non ho nulla contro ... capisco che uno scambio di opinioni permette di usare al meglio un programma, ma qualche volta cercare di fare qualcosa anche da soli, ad esempio cercandosi alcune info sul programma nel suo sito... permette di conoscere sia il programma stesso che le sue possibilità .... bhaaaa ! ... poi fate voi certamente è che ... domandare è lecito e rispondere è cortesia ...

Grazie, in realtà volevo convertire da MKV a formato DVD da leggere sul DVD di casa. Sul PC uso da anni Zoomplayer e VLC in seconda battuta.
