I like Artensoft Photo Mosaic Wizard, although this 1.5 version could use some minor improvements. The install was clean. It generates an indexed database of your pictures, but also appears to generate an index file per picture. This process is quite slow, and the default placement in your Pictures folder is a very bad idea, I'd put them someplace else. Also, it can include a folder and optionally all subfolders, but it should be changed to work like most backup programs, where selecting a folder selects all subfolders, but you can expand the folder tree and deselect particular subfolders. It automatically crops and scales the pictures. I disagree with #4, Rob, about the rotation and mirroring options, I think they're where they should be. You select the number of images in the mosaic, and it generates the mosaic (relatively quickly on my PC). You can then change the particular images used from a list per position. Curiously, I thought that many of the optional images looked quite different and it seemed to me that many of them would mess up the result. It's true that the zooming could be better. You select the output size and format when you save the result. It scales the images correspondingly. The save process can be very slow, it should have a progress indicator.
There are a number of ways to display a mosaic on your website. Probably the best and easiest is a Microsoft Labs site, Seadragon. Presently it's free, but that may change. Here's a link to Artensoft's tiger mosaic on Seadragon. You're supposed to own the copyright, but I'm only supplying the link here in relation to Artensoft Photo Mosaic Wizard, and Artensoft themselves used images for which they don't own the copyright when creating the mosaic. The mouse-wheel doesn't work for me when viewing full-screen, but does work windowed. Note that this is using the mosaic on Artensoft's website, which is smaller than the one contained in their .zip file.
As much as I hate Microsoft, some of the photography-related stuff coming out of their labs is interesting. They have a bunch of websites and tons of free tools. Microsoft Photosynth is cool, and they offer both free public and paid commercial licenses. Microsoft Research Image Composite Editor is a great tool and the site contains links to other tools and sites.
#8, Jay, that error is usually due to your security software scanning the temporary file created by Setup. If you can't work around it, try disabling your anti-virus / anti-malware software.

Works great in Win7 64 bit.
The picture variaton is important, if you dont have enough pics in a certain shade you'll see a ton of duplicates in that area.
Takes longer according to pic size, so you might want to batch convert the size forst if you plan on using the same pis in different mosaics.
Will not make mosaic if not enough pictures are loaded.
Dislike:
There is options for Mirror and rotate of the mosaic pieces, but those options are on the fly while it's actually placing them, it's too late, and should be in the option tab at the tob. The option tab has almost no options.
Would like to see more options, and the preview panel zooming works, but it doesn't make sense. It should zoom in one way, and out the other.

Unless you have the 1500 pictures needed to even start creating the mosaic then steer well clear of this one.
Downloading the supposedly helpful facility from artensoft of a quantity of pictures takes up 80 megabytes of your storage, as well as taking an age to get to a stage to be able to use them.
Trying this one on a celeron laptop was slow, tedious, frustrating and in the end proved to be a total waste of time as the mosaic eventually generated didn't even save (was that the bug?).
I'd say back to the drawing board with this one artensoft.
I can only think the initial couple of seemingly positive comments were made by the software makers themselves!
Downloaded and installed okay on a WinXP SP3 from the initial offering (pre-bug fix), but I was a little taken aback when I was asked to include between 1500 (minimum) and 5000 (ideal) photos to make one mosaic - my computer just didn't have that many! Whilst I appreciate that this is a limitation on the final picture - the more pictures the better the end result - but this isn't always practical, as I have found out. It's almost a 'novelty' programme that I wouldn't regularly use in the course of my job, but I thought I would give it a go anyway (seemed like a good idea at the time), but I have now decided to remove it from this particular PC, and maybe install it on the 'family' computer which has a lot more photos to play around with!
Having said that, I have used Paintshop Pro and Photoshop in the past to make a mosaic for a website, and this can be both time consuming and labourious (not to say plain boring), so a programme like this one (with less photos required to make an image) would be nice. I know someone is likely to write in and say try this one... so I will await the final set of comments later today/tomorrow. Thanks GOTD for the good work!

La versione con build 40.0 e' ancora buggata. Parte la prima volta, crasha e continua a crashare all'apertura del programma.
X GAOTD: Vi ho sempre difeso facendo capire (mai maleducamente) ai vari idioti che postano idiozie che questo infantile atteggiamento alla fine danneggia il sito. Mi avete di tutta risposta bannato 2 commenti solo perche' ho dato del "bamboccio" e del "frustrato" al personaggio che sappiamo. Non lo e' forse ? Se e' così complimentoni davvero! Tenetevelo pure e non bannatelo mai, mi raccomando. Evidentemento ho sbagliatio io evidentemente fa comodo anche a voi. Se e' così mi avete deluso tantissimo. Se non e' così illuminatemi in quanto stento davvero a capirvi.

Scaricato il programma alle ore 15:00 circa, installato e perfettamente funzionante su windows 7 64bit con un QuadCore e 4gb ddr3 1600, ho provato a fare un mosaico dei miei gatti ed è venuto fantastico, ho salvato in jpg (un pò lenta l'elaborazione) ma funziona.... ho salvato anche un immagine di 50mb ad una risoluzione di 14000x10600

FANTASTICO! e solo per 80 dollari. Con 30 dollari aggiuntivi vi fanno anche esplodere il PC. Ho sbagliato tutto nella vita! Mah! robe di matti! tanti problemi a provare per il niente di niente!stavo meglio sensa star li a scaricare due volte per non vedere niente di fatto a modo. ma mi chiedo se si rendono conto che con quei soldi li che ci vogliono a comprare un programma così deve almeno funzionare a modo? ma sono buoni di fare i programmi? è meglio comprarli in un negozio che sai che spendi ma sai anche che se non va gliel'ho riporti indietro e di fai dare in dietro anche i soldi che hai seso per comprarlo. Così non perdi niente. qua adesso o il compiuter che va a colpi e mi esce sempre la clessidra ogni volta che faccio doppio clic sulla cartelle che mi interesano di aprire.
Io ciò 75 anni e mi piace tenermi aggiornato su quello che è novita giusto per star dietro ai tempi, ma se poi ho bisogno che qualcuno mi aggiusti il compiuter ogni volta che cerco di istallare un programma, buonanotte suonatori, mi conviene anche a me andare al circolini a giocare a scala 40 come i miei anici che c'hanno la mia età.
spero che i prossimi siano di loro funzionanti senza star li a diventar matti per risparmiare qualcosina. buongiorno comunque a tutti e grazie lo stesso a questo sito.

per il resto...take it easy...non ne vale la pena di bucherellarsi il fegato con le incongruenze del sistema.

Sai che ti dico?Io sono emigrato dall"italia per questo motivo e ora sto avendo la conferma(semmai ce ne fosse bisogno)che ho fatto bene ad allontanarmi da un paese dove vige la raccomandazione,dominato dall"ipocrisia e dal falso perbenismo......controllato dalla malavita in tutte le sue forme,da quella piu' "tradizionale"a quella piu' camuffata(polizia,carramba,e GOVERNO)....

Bene, il sito ora ha ripreso a funzionare, e per curiosità ho provato a scaricare Artensoft Photo Editor versione trial. Dopo un ennesimo “Service Temporarily Unavailable” sono riuscito a ottenere il file di setup e ho installato il programma: neanche questo funziona. Ottimo!

Interessante notare il primo e il secondo post, soprattutto il secondo dove viene evidenziato un errore nel programma (corretto e riproposto). Forse qualcuno che fanfaroneggia ... manco li prova prima di postare.

La versione ora scaricata e' la 1.0.40.0 ma crasha immediatamente al lancio del programma. E' quella fixata o ancora quella buggata ??

Quanto sei pirloCERBOTTO, hai provato il software quando ancora era impossibile utilizzarlo. andava in crash nel salvataggio.

Ottimo TOOL per creare mosaici e album fotografici, fa più di quello che possono fare i tradizionale sw FREE, e non a caso costa 80 dollari.
Quindi assolutamente consigliato, e se lo dice un GEEK infallibile come Cerbotto c'è da fidarsi... LOL!
Vi avverto ke sono ufficialmente diventato il N°1 anche di GAOTD, dopo la misera CADUTA di ASHRAF di ieri, quando nella sua quotidiana REVIEWS del sw, ha detto (udite udite) ke DOUBLE DRIVER e DRIVERMAX erano alternative free a DIVER MAGICIAN, ignorando completamente che DOUBLE DRIVER effettua solo il BACKUP dei driver ma non li può aggiornare, mentre DRIVER MAX non è FREE ma è uno SHAREWARE.
A me ovviamente l'errore non è sfuggito e gliel'ho subito segnalato con un email implakabile (in ENGLISH of course, o pretendete che un geek come ASHRAF conosca l'O ITALIANO, lingua inutile ke nn parla nessuno oltre CHIASSO?? LOL!!).
Le mie illimitate conoscenze informatike hanno colpito ancora e sto volando sempre più alto... sarà per questo che... VI VEDO SEMPRE PIU' PICCOLI??
